Walk around Mackworth Island

Where to Hike!
Located in Pownal, about a 10 minute drive! This is an easy hike up to the top (200ft vertical) offers a quick view of the area! Dog friendly.
Hedgehog Mountain
A small (very small) mountain here in Freeport that is perfect for a quick, dog friendly hike.
About 1 hour away, moderate to advanced, great views. Recommend you scramble up Stone Mountain as part of the hike. Dog friendly!
Incredible hike with a lake at the top. 2 hrs away. Not really dog friendly.
Take the South Ridge Trail out and back, about 6.5 miles, moderate and beautiful views
Mackworth Island
Drive out to this island in Falmouth and walk all the way around. Not a hilly hike but a really beautiful place to explore. Dog friendly!
Cliff Trail
Beautiful ocean views in Harpswell. About a 40 minute drive, dogs allowed on leash.

Where to Swim!
Winslow Park
Great local ocean swim spot! This is a small beach so it can get overcrowded on a warm day. Best experienced at high tide. There is an excellent playground here too!
This is a great beach if you’re looking for a “beach day.” It’s about a 45 minute drive north of here and it’s gorgeous. Parking can fill up fast on a nice day.
Seawall Beach at Morse Mountain
About 50 minutes away, hike about a 2-mile easy hike to a very secluded sandy beach. The parking lot quickly fills up, so arrive early!
Gorgeous beach about 40 minutes south of here
Great beach in Cape Elizabeth, about 30 minutes south
Kettle Cove beach is a smaller beach inside of Crescent Beach State Park, and is way more secluded. Once in Crescent Beach State Park, follow signs for Kettle Cove
A beautiful 4-acre sandy beach that locals love.
If you are looking for a fresh water swim, Sebago Lake is very popular. It has a lot of sandy areas for access points!
Note that many popular beaches in Maine are State Parks and have strict "no pet" rules between April 1st and September 30th.
