Winter glamping in Maine

A warm cabin in the snowy pines.

Most Maine campgrounds close for the winter. We don't. Our Haven cabins, Cozy A-frames and Luna domes stay open December through April, with real heat, real beds and a Nordic sauna and hot tub a short walk from your door.

Why come in winter

Heated, not roughing it

Haven cabins and Luna domes have mini-split heat you set yourself. Cozy A-frames are small and quick to warm with their own heater.

Sauna, then snow

Unwind Nordic Spa is open every day of the year, right in the campground. Heat up in the sauna, cool off in the winter air, then soak in the hot tub.

Quiet season

Winter is the campground at its calmest: the trees, the snow, a fire at your own site, and Freeport and Portland all to yourself.

Which sites are open in winter

Every site is open May 1 through November 30. From December through April, these three are open:

  • Haven cabins — our largest cabins, with a full bathroom, a kitchenette and mini-split heat. Sleeps up to 6.
  • Luna domes — 22-foot geodesic domes with a full bathroom, a kitchenette, a loft, a giant window and mini-split heat. Sleeps 4.
  • Cozy A-frames — a queen bed under a big window, with heat and use of our Bath House. Sleeps 2.

The spa is the point of winter

Unwind Nordic Spa is a contrast-therapy spa under the pines: a cedar sauna, a salt-water hot tub and a plunge pool. The cold half of the cycle is easy to find in a Maine winter.

Campground guests pay $35 per person per day, much less than the public day pass. Add spa days when you book, or later from your Guest Portal. The spa is for adults 21 and over.

String lights glowing over the campground at night

Winterlight in December

Through December the campground hosts Winterlight: more than 40,000 holiday lights, raising money for local charities. Each evening from dusk until 8pm the public walks the campground to see them.

That makes a December stay a little less private than usual, and a lot more magical. You'll have the lights right outside your door.

Good to know before a winter stay

A few practical notes for the cold months.

  • Open December–April: Haven cabins, Luna domes and Cozy A-frames. Glamping tents and the other sites reopen May 1.
  • Check in from 4pm, check out by 10am. Both are self-serve.
  • Stays that include a Saturday night are 2 nights minimum.
  • Dogs are welcome in cabins and domes for $30 per dog, per night.
  • Bring boots and warm layers for the walk to the spa and the fire pit.
